A little bit of history...
Viral Records was created in late 2007 by Arron Cobbett with the aim of being an open minded netlabel focusing on experimental underground acts. Once it began distributing free MP3 albums it soon began to feature mostly electronic and more specifically IDM-based artists. Shortly after the first catalogue number (VMX001) was released Joss Weightman joined the project to primarily help with the web development but increasingly got more involved with Viral Records, eventually handling things such as demo submissions and online promotion. As time went on and Viral Records increased in popularity Arron Cobbett had less time to work on the project therfore handing over most of the responcibility of the label over to Joss Weightman. Arron finally left the project in mid 2008 just before the Viral Records compilation (VMX050) so he could concentrate on other projects, handing over the label fully to Joss Weightman.
Whilst this fast paced development of the label had been going on one of the first artists on the label had been becoming an integrated part of the adminstration team. Colby Keating (more commonly known as Caustic Candle) had been (and still is) an important contributor to the development of Viral Records. Most notably for his organization of the Viral Records compilation: Sundae (VMX050). When Arron left he took his position in the running of Viral Records. He is also a huge contributor to the catalogue and pumps out a lot of material for the label.
Viral Records is still maintained today by Joss Weightman and Colby Keating.
